Police have launched a murder investigation after an 18-year-old male was killed on the Railway Trail in Warwick.Assistant Commissioner David Mirfield said officers responded to a reported assault near Bulkhead Drive off Khyber Pass, around 12.40pm today. The Royal Gazette understands that the victim was stabbed, but Mr Mirfield was not able to confirm how the teenager died. However, he was able to say that the victim was not believed to have been shot.First responders arrived on scene and found the teenager suffering serious injuries. They transported him to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.Despite the proximity to the location of Monday's non-fatal shooting, Mr Mirfield said the two incidents do not appear to be otherwise linked.A 21-year-old was hit twice in the abdomen and once in the leg in what detectives described as a gang-related attempted murder. The shooting happened just East of Khyber Pass.In a statement made this afternoon at today's murder scene, Mr Mirfield called for anyone who was in the Bulkhead Drive area around 12.40pm, or who may have seen a group of young men running from the area, to contact the Serious Crime Unit.More than a dozen marked and unmarked vehicles were parked on Bulkhead Drive this afternoon as forensic officers and members of the Serious Crime Unit carried out their investigation.
