Big Brothers Big Sisters in recruiting drive for ‘Bigs’
Big Brothers Big Sisters Bermuda wants to spread the word on the rewarding task of being a mentor to a child in need.
Those who are interested in giving up their time to give back to the community are invited to the charity’s recruitment day this weekend. Interested volunteers should head to Warwick Camp on South Shore, Warwick, between 10am and 12pm on Saturday (November 26) to meet unmatched ‘Littles’.
Big Brothers Big Sisters helps children, in particular those from single parent families, who need support, mentoring and role models.
They match ‘Littles’ with ‘Bigs’ to form lasting and meaningful one-on-one relationships. There are understood to be about 100 children on the waiting list, many of these are boys.
The ‘Big for a Day’ event will also include plenty of activities on offer for everyone to enjoy, including volleyball, tug o’war, football and an assault course. A free lunch will also be served.
A Big Brothers Big Sisters spokeswoman said everyone was encouraged to attend the event to find out more about the charity.
She said: “It is important for us to expose members of our community to the BBBS programme.
“We want them to experience what it is like to be a Big even if it’s only for one day. This event has been organised numerous times in the past and has been very fun and successful. It promises to be a fun-filled event, so come out and be a Big for the day”.
