Man admits importing $1.4m of heroin

A man has admitted importing $1.4 million worth of heroin.Shannon Forth, 46, appeared at Supreme Court and admitted bringing the drugs into Bermuda on December 6, 2011.He denied a further charge that he possessed heroin with intent to supply it on the same date. Prosecutor Carrington Mahoney did not give any details in relation to the offence. However, when Forth first appeared at Magistrates’ Court in December 2011, the court heard that the value of the drugs was $1.4 million and they weighed 483.7 grams.The court also heard that Forth, of no fixed abode, arrived on the Island on a flight from Canada on December 6.Puisne Judge Carlisle Greaves ordered a pre-sentence report at the request of defence lawyer Elizabeth Christopher and remanded Forth into custody until a date can be arranged for his sentencing.In another case, Dameko Dublin, 19, denied a charge of possessing a firearm in the form of a Smith and Wesson pistol. Prosecutors allege the crime was committed between an unknown date and November 5, 2011. No further information was given, and Mr Justice Greaves remanded Mr Dublin, from Pembroke, into custody until the next arraignments session on May 1.In another alleged gun case, Gariko Benjamin, 20, denied possessing a firearm on January 25 2012 and unlawfully discharging a shot from a firearm. He also pleaded not guilty to further charges of aggravated vehicle taking and behaving in a threatening manner towards the police on the same date.According to the charges, he is alleged to have taken a motorcycle without the consent of the owner and ridden it in a dangerous manner and also told police: “You think you’re bad ‘cos you’ve got a gun? You’re not the only one that has a gun.” Prosecutors say he uttered the words while intimating that he was armed.The judge set his trial for June 4 and remanded him into custody until then.Michael Wade, 51, of Pembroke, faced a charge that he caused grievous bodily harm to Dunavin Nesbitt on September 26, 2008 with intent to do so. Mr Mahoney did not give any information about the alleged incident more than three years ago. However, when Mr Wade first appeared at Magistrates’ Court, the court heard the charge relates to an incident at Focus Counselling Services.Mr Wade pleaded not guilty, and the judge scheduled his trial to begin today, bailing him in the meantime.In another case, Carlos Astwood, 47, denied a charge that he attempted to commit arson at the Belvedere building on Pitt’s Bay Road in Pembroke on October 28, 2011. When Mr Astwood, of Point Finger Road, Paget, first appeared in court, Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo heard from prosecutor Susan Mulligan that the crime is alleged to have occurred at the Buzz restaurant which is housed in that building.His trial was fixed for July 3.
