Brain tumour support groups 5K clled a success

Organisers yesterday declared the first Bermuda Brain Tumor Support Group 5K a success, with around 30 participants and volunteers taking part.Organiser Shahidah Abdur-Rahim, who founded the Brain Tumor Support Group said the weather was perfect for those who took part, walking running and cycling around the course.“The supporters who came out are very excited to join the group and feel that it was a worthwhile effort to get the public involved,” Ms Abdur-Rahim said.“There are many Bermudians living with, or who have had a brain tumour and there are families that are in need of support.”Health Minister Zane DeSilva attended the event, presenting awards and certificates to the winners.First place walker, Pamela Rabain, was awarded a gift voucher for The Reefs, while runner Sacha Butterfield won a Digicel gift certificate and six-year-old Aquiyei Richardson won a gift certificate for the Sports Source.Following the success of the event, Ms Abdur-Rahim said the group is planning to enter a float in this year’s Bermuda Day Parade.The organisation will hold its next support group meeting on May 3, from 7pm to 8pm at the Mirrors Programme Boardroom in Global House.
