A Mid-Atlantic Wellness Institute outpatient admitted causing $15,000 in damages to an ATM machine.Paul Williams bashed in the HSBC ATM outside White’s Supermarket in Warwick with a metal pipe, Magistrates’ Court heard.The self-confessed drug addict was caught on video surveillance camera damaging the machine at 3.40pm on April 8.Williams, of Southampton, told Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner: “I was really hungry and it took my last card. I found out later that I used the wrong card.”He continued: “Maybe it wouldn’t have happened if I was all there.”Duty counsel Leo Mills suggested Mr Williams was suffering from psychiatric and psychological problems in addition to drug addiction.“I’m only human and I do make mistakes like every other man,” said Mr Williams.He then asked Mr Warner, “Have you ever made a mistake?”Mr Warner remanded the defendant in custody until May 16, with orders for mental evaluations under section 33 of the Mental Health Act.
