City’s fountain to remain filled in, for now

The former fountain at City Hall is likely to remain filled in with grass, “at least until the end of the year”, according to a spokesperson.Former City Councillors retired the reflecting pool earlier this year because of persistent leaks, after more than 50 years’ service. They received a flurry of complaints from members of the public upset at the loss. The new City administration, voted in last week, intends to solicit “welcome feedback from the community”.The spokesman said: “The plan is to send out an RFP within the next few months to get ideas and suggestions from the general public on how the front of City Hall can be developed to accommodate how the space is currently used, and how it can be used in the future.”
