Chewstick seeks liquor licence

The Chewstick Foundation has applied for a liquor licence for its Elliot Street Lounge.Chewstick Founder Gavin Smith said the idea is to not only allow them to sell drinks during shows, but to help them raise funds for their work in the community.“This space has been designed to be the number one live venue for entertainment, and to do that we would like to offer refreshments with our shows,” Mr Smith said.“It would also work as an additional revenue stream to help fund work by the Chewstick Foundation.“We’re looking to make it like the BMDS (Bermuda Musical and Dramatic Society) model where we use the facility to pay for the programmes and our community outreach.”Along with hosting live music, poetry and talks at the Chewstick Lounge, the Chewstick Foundation conducts youth programmes at several public schools and the Co-Ed Facility. The Liquor Licensing Authority is scheduled to hear the application on June 14 in Magistrates’ Court No 1 at 9.15am.
