An old English church felt like Bermuda for a day when James Thomson and Alexandra Jackson got married in true Island style.About 50 men wore Bermuda shorts, while a steel drum band, wedding cake adorned with Bermuda cedar and Dark ‘n’ Stormies all featured as the couple tied the knot in All Saints Church in Fulham last week.Mr Thomson, a 36-year-old investment manager, from Riddell’s Bay, has lived in London for the past 12 years; his new wife was born and raised in the UK but loves visiting Bermuda. He told The Royal Gazette: “We wanted to bring a bit of Bermuda flavour to the wedding and encouraged all the men to wear Bermuda shorts — a first in the 900 year history of All Saints Church.“About 50 men wore shorts including Bermudians, Brits and Americans who felt self-conscious at first, especially when travelling on the Tube, but soon got into the spirit.“After the church ceremony I slipped into an outfit that hasn’t been seen, even in Bermuda, since the 1950s: white tux with black shorts and satin stripe.”The day’s Bermuda-themed events were completed with the planting of a tree, although a bay tree was used as a substitute for Bermuda cedar.
