Omar Hayward has made an appeal, via YouTube, for assistance in paying for the costs associated with travelling overseas to be fitted with a new wheelchair.

A YouTube video has been created to help raise money for a local man’s trip overseas to be fitted for a new wheelchair.Omar Hayward has cerebral palsy, meaning he is unable to get around without a wheelchair. He is currently in Canada with his guardians attempting to secure a replacement for his current one.The video consists of a picture slideshow of Mr Hayward and his wheelchair, which is rusting and has broken wheels. Charles Reilly, who is currently with Mr Hayward in Canada, explained that the electric wheelchair is also losing its charge, meaning Mr Hayward sometimes has to rely on volunteers to push him.Donations from the public will go towards transportation costs to pick up the new wheelchair and a new iPad with speech software, as his condition makes it difficult for others to understand him.The wheelchair cost is covered by insurance. The family is looking for $6,750 to cover their airfare costs.Donations can be made through WindReach Bermuda, www.windreachbermuda.bm.Donors are asked to write Omar in the space for company name on the online form. Donations exceeding the amount required by Mr Hayward will be given to WindReach.
