Paget man medevaced after road accident

A man who was seriously injured when his pedal cycle was in collision with a taxi has been airlifted to the United States.The 51-year-old, from Paget, was hurt around 11.35am on Friday, August 3, near St Mark’s Church, South Road, Smith’s.He was treated in the Intensive Care Unit at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital until Wednesday, August 8, when he was transferred to a general ward.According to a hospital spokeswoman, he was airlifted yesterday for further treatment.A police spokesman said of the collision shortly after it happened: “It appears that a taxi was travelling East and a 51-year-old Paget man was travelling West on a pedal cycle when they collided.“A physician happened to be in the area and rendered first aid until the ambulance could be summoned.”Asked for an update yesterday, he said the investigation was continuing, and no arrests had been made.Witnesses should telephone 295-0011 with any information.
