Last week’s airport disruption was a prank

An investigation has been launched after a prank fire alarm shut down the airport for over an hour.Traffic was stalled and LF Wade International Airport was evacuated as a result.A Government spokesman said Sunday’s incident has since been deemed an “act of vandalism”.“[The alarm] was intentionally pulled and the matter is now under investigation,” said the spokesman. The prank saw crowds of travellers gather outside the terminals and backed up traffic along the Causeway. The alarm was pulled around 1.38pm, during the busiest period of operation, and caused an immediate evacuation of the air terminal. The alarm also resulted in the gates on Cahow Way being closed preventing motorists from entering or leaving.By 1.50pm the fire alarm was reset and the commotion had settled.Said the spokesman: “The Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service stood down at 2.05pm. At 2.50pm all passengers and staff were back in the terminal for processing.”There were minimal travel delays.
