Cancer & Health Centre to make presentation on it’s Information Service at world congress

The Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre has been invited to present its Cancer Information Service at the 2012 Union for International Cancer Control World Cancer Congress.In partnership with the Canadian Cancer Society, the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre presented a PowerPoint that details the service.The Cancer Information Service connects cancer patients and their loved ones to current cancer information and assists with finding local support services.Rhonda Smith-Simmons, education officer at the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre said: “CIS has been a source of support for many residents.“Being able to present this service to a world audience is an incredible honour and will hopefully demonstrate how small or underserved countries can successfully partner with existing programmes to meet their needs in a cost-effective manner.”The presentation, entitled “Bermuda Triangle? — Demystifying Cancer for Patients and Families,” was displayed on large screens at the World Cancer Congress throughout the event.The Congress ran from August 27 to August 30 at the Palais de Congrès in Montreal, Canada.In addition to providing access to online resources, the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre also maintains a lending library of books and DVDs on cancer and other health issues.The Cancer Information Service can be accessed by visiting www.ccis.bm or by calling 232-2247.
