45-year-old man dies in road crash

The scene of the fatal crash this afternoon.

A 45-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a crash on North Shore Road, Devonshire, this afternoon.The man, from St George's, suffered fatal injuries when his vehicle collided with a car near to Terceira's gas station, at about 2.20pm.Police are at the scene investigating the cause of the crash.A Police spokesman said: “Around 2.20pm on Tuesday, police and first responders were dispatched to a reported serious collision on North Shore Road in Devonshire near the junction with Cable Hill. It appears that a motorcycle and a car were travelling along North Shore Road when they collided at the entrance of Terceira's gas station.“The motorcycle rider, a 45-year-old St George's man, was seriously injured as a result and taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance where he later succumbed to his injuries. At this time, it does not appear that the occupants of the car were injured.“No further details regarding the deceased will be given until the next of kin has been notified. A full investigation into this fatal collision is underway and any witnesses are encouraged to contact PC Timothy Evelyn at the Roads Policing Unit on 295-0011.”It is the eighth road fatality this year.
