Flu Express programme starts today

The Ministry of Health will today begin to deliver influenza vaccine to the public through their Flu Express programme.Between 10am and 2pm today, staff will provide flu shots at the Hamilton Health clinic.The vaccine shots cost $10 for adults and children, but will be free for seniors aged 65 and older.The Flu Express will continue next week, with shots being given at Penno’s Wharf, St George’s on Tuesday, at the Warwick Post Office on Wednesday, St James Church in Sandys on Thursday before returning to Hamilton Health Centre next Saturday.While the flu may be a relatively minor ailment for most people, it can be dangerous or even life threatening for some as it can increase the risk of serious complications such as pneumonia or respiratory failure.Health Minister Zane DeSilva said: “The influenza vaccine is a safe and effective vaccine that protects against influenza.“Influenza illness can be serious for very young children, seniors and persons with chronic health problems which is why it is important to prevent its occurrence.“With the increased uptake of the vaccine each year Bermuda has seen a decline in the incidence of influenza in the community.”
