City updates rules on commercial signs

City of Hamilton businesses with outdoor signs are invited to a Bermuda Chamber of Commerce meeting about updated regulations.The City has changed its “very outdated” rules on overhanging signs, awnings and other items attached to buildings, the Chamber announced.New ordinances include a rule that awnings cannot display ads — and that signs should not extend farther than 2ft from the side of a building.Awnings must be retractable and signs removable. Businesses are also liable to a fee of $75 for encroaching over City property.Chief operating officer Ed Benevides and city engineer Patrick Cooper will host the 2pm meeting on Monday.Call 295-4201 or e-mail pvirgil@bcc.bm to confirm attendance.
