Bike crash victim in critical condition
A 16-year-old Bermudian teenager is today fighting for his life after he was airlifted to a US hospital on Saturday.This after a serious road traffic accident on South Road near Marley Beaches around 8.15pm on Friday.The teenager was one of four individuals travelling on two motorcycles and an auxiliary cycle believed to be travelling in opposite directions when the accident occurred.Another 18-year-old was listed in stable condition on a general ward at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital. The other two were treated at the Emergency Ward for less serious injuries and later released.The young man airlifted to Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Massachusetts was in critical condition when he left the Intensive Care Unit at KEMH.A spokesman for Lahey Clinic last night said his condition remains unchanged.Police are today continuing to appeal for anyone who may have seen this collision to contact Pc Garwin Phillips on 295-0011.Roads Policing Unit Insp Phil Lewis, told this newspaper on Friday that “speed and other factors” may have been the causes of the crash.He urged motorists to exercise caution on Bermuda’s roads and to “slow down”.Meanwhile, police are investigating another single vehicle accident that occurred on South Road in Warwick, near the junction with Camp Road around 2.15am yesterday.A police spokesman said an 18-year-old St George’s woman and a 21-year-old Southampton man were injured, however their injuries “are not believed to be serious”.Police were also called to the scene of a road traffic accident on North Shore near the old Clay House Inn just before 9pm last night. Details were unavailable at presstime.But eyewitness reports indicate a female motorist was injured although her injuries are not believed to be life threatening. A statement is due from police later today.
