Resistance bands recalled following safety concerns
The Department of Consumer Affairs yesterday warned local Walmart shoppers of a recall of one of the company’s exercise products.
Perfect Resistance Bands sold by the popular chain of stores were voluntarily recalled after they were deemed a potential safety hazard.
An advisory was issued by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, warning that the bands can detach from their mesh cloth loops, potentially injuring the user and those in the vicinity.
Twelve incidents have been reported, with buyers injured in the back, hand and eye. None of the injuries were serious although one required medical attention.
To date, 75,000 units of the product have been sold.
Consumer Affairs’ education officer Honey Adams noted: “Locals tend to shop overseas and online so there is a possibility that this product is on the Island. “
The recalled bands are:
lPerfect Bands Heavy 25lb capacity with UPC Code 096506310354, colour purple
lPerfect Bands Very Heavy 30lb capacity, UPC Code 096506310361, colour grey
lPerfect Bands Ultra Heavy 40lb capacity, UPC Code 096506310378, colour black
