Health Minister believes dispute will be resolved without industrial action
Health Minister Patricia Gordon Pamplin has issued assurances that the Bermuda Industrial Union pay dispute with the Bermuda Hospitals Board will be resolved without industrial action. When contacted by The Royal Gazette yesterday Ms Gordon Pamplin said: “I have no doubt that there have been unresolved issues that have sat for an inordinate amount of time.“While we acknowledge that there hasn’t been a pay uplift, I have to respect the fact that this is a hospital call, but as Minister I tried to pre-empt industrial action, and I know that the hospital is looking for a proper resolution.”King Edward VII Memorial CEO Venetta Symonds said: “Bermuda Hospitals Board has been in touch with the BIU to inform them it is reviewing this issue as a matter of urgency.“BHB will discuss its findings with the union once this review is complete, which is expected to be within a day or two."The Minister confirmed that she met with BIU president Chris Furbert last week as a courtesy call to be apprised of the outstanding wage settlement and other issues.Said Ms Gordon Pamplin: “I know KEMH is looking for a proper resolution, but I certainly hope it will be resolved without industrial action.”Efforts to secure a comment from Mr Furbert by press time were unsuccessful.
