City considers four-day Cup Match music festival

The proposed event would feature a local talent night with free entry, two international entertainment nights and a beach barbecue night. The festival would take place this summer on the weekend before Cup Match, and on the Cup Match weekend itself. The plan was unveiled at the monthly public meeting of the City of Hamilton.Events project manager for the City, Danilee Trott, told the meeting that the organiser had approached them about potentially receiving funding. While the City had previously earmarked $45,000 in funding for a music festival this year, it had been scrapped in the annual budget. The City heard that the total budget of the event would be over $300,000, and already has the support of the Department of Tourism.Organisers had told the City they would be able to go forward with the festival if the City was able to reinstate the previously decided funding.Councillor Keith Davis expressed his support for the proposal, saying: “Traditionally Cup Match is at either end of the Island, and nothing much is done in the city.“This gives an opportunity for the city to do something during that festive period that is centred in the city.”The City’s board voted in favour of funding the festival.
