Police seeking ‘the best local’ recruits

The Bermuda Police Service has launched a recruitment campaign aimed at boosting its ranks with “the best local candidates”.Superintendent Sean Field-Lament said:”We are aware that in the current economic climate, there are a number of Bermudians looking for a meaningful career, or who are considering changing occupations — and the Bermuda Police Service presents a very viable option.“As a police officer, successful recruits will join a dynamic organisation with exceptional benefits committed to policing with the community and making Bermuda safer. All new officers will also be expected to adhere to the Bermuda Police Service core values of professionalism, accountability, integrity, dedication, respect, courage and unity,” he said.“Currently we have 426 officers. With natural retirement we’re hoping to get somewhere between 14 and 20 officers.”Advertisements will soon appear in the print media and officers from the Training Department will attend various community events to promote the recruitment campaign.The closing date for applicants is Friday, April 19. To apply you must be between the age of 19 and 49 and possess a valid driver’s licence and a school-leaving certificate with “good academic standing”.Applicants are also required to be “committed to serving the community and upholding the law, be honest and possess a high degree of integrity with the ability to remain calm under pressure with good interpersonal skills”.Bermudians, spouses of Bermudians and non-Bermudians who have permission from the Immigration Department to work in Bermuda without a work permit may apply.Applicants must undergo a police initial recruitment test, vetting checks, physical, psychological and medical tests as well as a home visit and go before an assessment board.Applications are available at all police stations and can be downloaded from the police website, www.bermudapolice.bm.
