Government denies claims of 150 jobs cut
Government has denied claims that approximately 150 civil servant jobs were cut.
“Over the Easter Holiday Weekend, unsubstantiated stories about the release of up to 150 government workers took up space in online media sites,” a Government statement said. “The Cabinet Office confirmed today that the stories were false.”
Donald Scott, the head of the Civil Service stated: “A small number of casual, part-time or temporary workers concluded their work assignments at the end of March 2013 and were released. The number of persons released or not rehired as a result of the completed projects and temporary duties was 15 in total.
“No full-time employees in established posts have been either released or terminated as implied in some of the irresponsible allegations that have been in circulation in online media.”
On Monday, Shadow Home Affairs Minister Walter Roban called on Government to “come clean on allegations that as many as 150 people have lost their jobs and are no longer working for Government.”
Late last week the lay-off rumours surfaced on radio talk shows and in online commentary.
