Mayor names Scott to chair Governance Committee
A year into its tenure the members of the Hamilton City Council have yet to sign onto documents intended to ensure good governance.
But Mayor Graeme Outerbridge has appointed union organiser George Scott to replace lawyer Larry Scott as chairman of the Council’s Governance Committee,
The Royal Gazette can report.
Last year, City Hall said good governance documents, including the Code of Conduct were being reviewed with a view to strengthening the language.
Mr Scott’s appointment has raised some eyebrows in some circles, as he is the chief organiser of the Bermuda Industrial Union and the Governance Committee deals with staff issues.
Many of the Corporation of Hamilton’s staff are members of the BIU, with a handful being members of the Bermuda Public Services Union.
City Hall did not respond to our queries yesterday.
