Workmen today began taking down the flagpole on Front Street.
The City of Hamilton announced on Friday that the damaged pole had to be replaced, after 40 years on the job.
The flagpole had stood on Front Street at the junction with Burnaby Hill, since 1973.
Said City secretary Ed Benevides: “The City will be without a flagpole until the new one arrives and is installed.
“The new flagpole will be identical to the one it replaces. It will be an 80ft aluminium, nautical flagpole.”
Workmen removed the flagpole from Front Street this morning. The pole stood at the junction with Burnaby Hill since 1973.
The City of Hamilton is to replace the flagpole at the junction of Front Street and Burnaby Hill. It has been in place since 1973.
