Seniors put on the style
Dressed to the nines, seniors walked down the runway showing off their fashion choices in front a crowd of 600 people yesterday at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess. The seniors’ fashion show was part of 27th annual Seniors’ Week, which was created by the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs to honour and recognise Bermuda’s seniors for their contributions to the community. This is the first year small skits were integrated to begin the event. Following the opening skit several seniors boldly walked down the runway with confidence and style, as they volunteered to wear their own personal fashions for all to see.Heather Whalen, Senior Community and Cultural Affairs Officer, said: “This is so important for our elders because this is where they get proper affirmation for all they’ve done for the community.“There were so many people who called in wanting to participate that we had to split this into skits and fashion show volunteers.”“Seniors’ Week has grown so much we now have people waiting from 9am for the event to start, and even had an over flow in the gazebo.”Jeannie Isaac, of the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs, said: “These ladies dress with the gloves, the hats, and are very fashionable in their regular lives,” she said. “There has been a lot of excitement and anticipation for this day for the whole week.”
