Megan's a world beater
Megan Bower is officially one of the brightest teenagers in the world.The Bermuda High School head girl scored 44 out of a possible 45 points on her International Baccalaureate exams, putting her in the top 0.5 percent for IB students worldwide.Her achievement was just one of a set of results for BHS that Linda Parker, the head of school, called ‘outstanding’.Megan’s score saw her smash past the 38 points she needed to get into the University of Warwick, where she will study English literature.“It was higher than I expected,” she said “ [But] It’s my personality to push myself as far as I can.”Admitting that she screamed when she saw her results, she said the reaction from her proud parents, made the news that much sweeter.“I screamed then I ran upstairs to tell my parents,” she said. “Their reaction made it ten times better.”Overall the school recorded 61 percent of IB students scoring 30 points or higher, out of a possible 45, and second for BHS was Lara Hetzel, whose 42 points were also in the top IB percentile.Connie Campbell received 38 points, Cara Johnston took 36, and JayLynn Hines, Asha Hoyte and Rachel Soares each scored 35.Ms Parker said four students were offered direct entry into year two of the University of Western Ontario, based on their high IB results.There was also a 100 percent success in achieving the IB Diploma, plus a 100 percent pass rate in individual subjects.
