Pembroke resident Rodericka Pitcher, for whom the community often rallied over the years of her battle with cancer, has passed away at the age of 30.Ms Pitcher came to public attention in 1998, when she developed bone cancer at the age of 15, while attending CedarBridge Academy.The honours students doggedly continued her schooling while undergoing intensive chemotherapy for the rare osteogenic sarcoma.With the goal of becoming an accountant, she persisted through gruelling treatment in the US through 1998 and 1999. She went on to take part in sports, and helped found Hamilton’s Victoria Market to assist local traders.Funeral service arrangements are pending.
