Howzat! Australia and England face Bermuda bowler
England’s cricketers aren’t the only ones causing Michael Clarke some problems — Kamau Leverock is getting in on the act as well. The Bermuda bowler gave the Australian captain a going over in the nets at Lord’s yesterday, ahead of the second Ashes Test, which starts tomorrow.Mr Leverock was invited to bowl at both teams during a day-long practice session at the “home of cricket” and said the entire experience had given his confidence a big boost.“It went well, it was a great experience,” Mr Leverock told The Royal Gazette. “It was good fun to bowl at [Michael] Clarke and [Peter] Siddle; both told me that I was bowling well.”The Bermuda bowler even got Mr Clarke to nick the ball, an achievement he announced proudly on Twitter yesterday. “I just nicked off Michael Clarke. Cut [Peter] Siddle in half and beat the bat a few times. Not bad,” he tweeted. After helping to put the Australians through their paces in the morning, Mr Leverock set about England players Joe Root and Steven Finn in the afternoon and again won praise for his efforts.“I bowled at Joe Root and Steven Finn in the afternoon, and both said I was bowling well, and that’s definitely a confidence boost,” he said. “To have guys like that tell you you’re bowling well, it gives me more confidence in my bowling.”Mr Leverock will be back at Lord’s today for a second practice session and said walking through the gates at Lord’s was “a special feeling”.The Somerset star was invited to be a part of the training session by Phil Hodgson, who works on the ground staff at the MCC, and met Leverock when he was part of the ICC Americas Under-19 team last year.“It’s the home of cricket. It’s a special feeling to walk through the gates in the morning and the nets are unreal,” he said. “They’re better than some of the grounds we get to play on.”
