Ideas sought for site of former rest home

The Pembroke Parish Council is seeking proposals for the former site of the Pembroke Rest Home to help improve the community.According to an advertisement in yesterday’s edition of this newspaper, the Council is seeking expressions of interest for their property at 28 Parsons Road.“The Pembroke Parish Council is seeking an innovative proposal for the former Pembroke Rest Home site,” the advertisement said. “This opportunity is open to all individuals, groups and organisations interested.“Proposals that will assist in improving the general welfare of this community will be given additional consideration.”The site, which is currently zoned Residential one, served as the Pembroke Rest Home until it was shut down in March 2007 due to issues with the building’s infrastructure. Government at that time promised major renovations.Earlier this summer the building was the focus of restoration efforts by Habitat for Humanity, with dozens of volunteers fixing and cleaning the site.Site visits are being offered on August 13 and 20 between 10am and 1pm. Those interested in site visits are asked to RSVP by e-mailing admin@ppcbda.org.Those interested in responding to the request must respond by 5pm on September 20.
