City plan flag pole erection

The original, erected in 1973, had to be taken down in April because of damage. The City of Hamilton hopes to have a replacement up soon.

Engineers for the City of Hamilton are keeping a close eye on this weekend’s weather, in the hope of erecting Front Street’s brand new flagpole this Sunday.Hamilton’s iconic 80ft flagpole had to be retired several months ago, after 40 years of wear and tear on the waterfront.According to the City’s Chief Operating Officer Ed Benevides, the replacement is five feet higher but “essentially the same as the old in look”.“We will need good weather and a crane to install it,” Mr Benevides added.Since the crane will take up part of Front Street, either this Sunday or the next has been scheduled — contingent upon fair skies.
