Agreement signed to encourage charities’ transparency

A memorandum of understanding was sealed today between the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Centre on Philanthropy, to encourage transparency in the non-profit sector. As part of the agreement, the Centre on Philanthropy will offer monthly workshops for groups interested in starting charities to learn more about the registration process.Home Affairs Minister Michael Fahy said the MOU would also boost best practices for non-profits.“The Registry General’s Department will maintain an online directory consisting of a full listing of the Island’s non-profit organisations, and the Centre on Philanthropy has its own comprehensive database,” Sen Fahy added. “Working together, we can ensure that there are no duplications on either register, while promoting best practices and assuring the donor community of the strength of the non-profit sector.”The partnership will allow the two parties to “pool our resources to ensure that there is efficiency and transparency for all concerned”, he said.
