St George’s supporters win Appleby’s Cup Match fundraiser

Appleby Bermuda managing partner Kiernan Bell with colleague and lawyer Seth Darrell, captain of employees' "Team St George's" which raised the most funds for the Family Centre during the law firm's first Cup Match Fundraiser, which it plans to turn into an annual event. St George's supporters worked to raise funds for the Family Centre, while Somerset fans worked to raise funds for the Bermuda Diabetes Association.

St George’s may have been unable to topple Somerset during Cup Match, but St George’s supporters defeated Somerset fans in an Appleby Cup Match fundraising event.In total, Appleby staff raised $1,879 for two local charities, which was subsequently matched by Appleby partners.In the two weeks before Cup Match, staff at the offices divided into teams as part of the charity drive.St George’s supporters worked to raise funds for the Family Centre, while Somerset fans worked to raise funds for the Bermuda Diabetes Association.Fundraising activities included a Team Somerset bake sale boasting a range of red and blue food items and a Team St George’s raffle draw.After two weeks, St George’s fans were able to raise $1,098 while Somerset fans raised $781.Appleby’s partners matched the donation, resulting in $2,196 going to the Family Centre and $1,562 to the Bermuda Diabetes Association.An Appleby spokeswoman said the charity drive was the first of what they plan to be an annual event at the Appleby office.
