Gym’s 1,000lbs challenge

The Athletic Club is launching a new community fitness and nutrition challenge aimed at helping Bermuda lose 1,000lbs — and for extra motivation, there's a $2,000 prize at stake.

The four to six person team that loses the highest percentage of weight and inches will receive the cash prize at the end of the six-week Thinner Winner Contest.

The contest will kick off on September 21 and end with a finale party on November 1 in Victoria Park.

Participants will be able to use all The Athletic Club's facilities and attend weekly nutritional roundtables on topics such as nutrition and eating plans during the challenge.

Each team will have a personal coach and access to special Thinner Winner workouts such as Metafit, Zumba and Tabata circuit training sessions. Additionally, power walking workouts with champion power walker Sinclair Smith will be available.

“We are honoured to help shape up Bermuda,” said Kym Herron Scott, owner of The Athletic Club. “It's a win-win situation. The challenge helps reduce healthcare costs, improves work productivity and creates happier, healthier Bermudians.”

The entry fee is $139 for The Athletic Club members, $279 for non-members and $1,000 for a corporate team. Each team must have at least two non-members to compete.

The contest is being sponsored by the City of Hamilton along with Attride-Stirling and Woloniecki, OIL, Buzz and DHL.

Enrolment is currently open for the Thinner Winner Contest. Interested people can call 295-6140 or e-mail to register a team or as an individual.
