New $100 bill the real deal

First Prev 1 2 Next Last

New US $100 bills will soon be released with new security features to make it easier to detect forgeries. The new notes, set to begin circulation on October 8, will include a blue, 3D security ribbon woven into the paper and a colour shifting image of a bell.A spokeswoman for the US Consulate said yesterday: “The advanced security features — the 3D security ribbon and the bell in the inkwell — offer a simple and subtle way to verify that a new $100 note is real.“Look for a blue ribbon on the front of the note. Tilt the note back and forth while focusing on the blue ribbon. You will see the bells change to 100s as they move. When you tilt the note back and forth, the bells and 100s move side to side. If you tilt it side to side, they move up and down. The ribbon is woven into the paper, not printed on it.“Look for an image of a colour-shifting bell, inside a copper-coloured inkwell, on the front of the new $100 note. Tilt it to see the bell change from copper to green, an effect which makes the bell seem to appear and disappear within the inkwell.”Useful website: www.newmoney.gov
