Funds garnered for the Government “cash back for communities” using the proceeds of crime to fight gang and gun violence in Bermuda, will also support Team Street Safe.

The anti-gang mediation programme is an off shoot from Operation Ceasefire implemented last year.

In his Throne Speech address Governor George Fergusson said: “With funds realised from seizures made to date and funds designated for the Confiscated Assets Fund in the next six months, the Government will allocate funding to support Team Street Safe.”

The anti-gang mediation programme’s mandate includes “providing alternative opportunities to those who seek to transition out of the gang lifestyle”.

He added that other organisations will be considered as additional funding becomes available.
