Government House: New passports are sometimes quicker from UK
Government House has moved to clarify the role of Bermuda Immigration and the issuance of British passports in response to a letter to the Editor calling for a “British Embassy” here to ease the process.
The Letter to the Editor from “A British Subject” on Tuesday, claimed the new arrangement of sending them to the UK is “pretty intolerable” and “absurd” for the average person and elderly.
Langton Hill responded expressing sympathy about concerns over delays, but pointed out London had consolidated issuance of passports for security reasons.
The statement explained the process “should take no longer than it did when passports were produced in Washington, DC” and “in many cases, we are aware that the process is turning out to be quicker”.
Government House statement concluded: “We are aware that the new process has caused problems for some people.
“Along with other Overseas Territories, we are discussing improvements to the service with the Her Majesty’s Passport Office.”
