BHS’ anti-bullying campaign launched

A whole school photo shows the commitment at the Bermuda High School for Girls for a zero tolerance toward bullying. The school has trained students from year seven through IB as "angels", to spot and report bullying and help out others who are targeted by bullies.

Bermuda High School for Girls has unveiled its “Angels” — an anti-bullying initiative that recruits students to foster a happier school environment.

Drawing members from Year Seven through International Baccalaureate year, the Angels are been given anti-bullying training through the Dare to Care workshops introduced to the Island in 2008.

Marked by purple wristbands that read “Be the Change”, along with angel wing pins, the Angels can provide peer mediation and assist other students if they are being targeted by bullies.

The initiative has also been given prominence at school assemblies and the group is now on prefect duties around the primary and secondary schools during the lunch hour.

The group is led by IB students Bryn Thomas, Charlotte Griffins and Reem Bushara, in tandem with head of school Linda Parker, school counsellor Niamah Denbrook Cann and academic resource teacher Susie Hall.
