Man threatened ex-girlfriend’s mother

A St George’s man who told the court he ‘patrols the Island fighting for his country’ was put on two years probation today after admitting he threatened the mother of his former girlfriend.

Kevin Simmons, 22, was arrested in October for possession of a bladed article, a knife, and threatening behaviour.

Prosecutor Carrington Mahoney told Magistrates’ Court that on October 23, a St George’s woman saw Simmons standing outside her daughter’s bedroom window.

She asked him what he wanted, saying he was not welcome on the property, and he replied: “Open that window. If you don’t, I will break it and beat the s*** out of you.”

The woman opened the window but then called the police, causing Simmons to run away, shouting: “I’m going to get you.”

He was later found by police and arrested for using threatening words. When police searched him, they discovered a brown-handled folding knife with a 3.8 inch blade in his pants pocket.

Simmons, who is unemployed, told the court that he does daily “patrols” around the Island by himself, and began to carry the knife for his own protection after being “jumped”.

“I fight for my country,” he told Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner.

Simmons was given 31 days imprisonment and two years probation, but was released as he has already served the time since he was remanded into custody in October.
