Proud father Ryan Bean off to Halifax to see wife and twins
Christmas Eve came early for new father of fraternal twins separated eight days apart by birth.
For Ryan Bean and the Bean family, today is like Christmas Day already. They will all be reunited just in time for the holidays at IWK Health Centre in Canada tonight.
As first reported by The Royal Gazette, Bermudians Edonna and Ryan Bean made international news headlines last month after both twins were born days apart.
At last check, both Emyr and Esai Bean were making steady progress, gaining weight and doing extremely well considering their rare deliveries.
Full of smiles and anxious to leave, Mr Bean was set leave Bermuda today and yesterday he said he simply could hardly wait to get back to his family.
In the interim he’s been telling everyone he greets that Christmas Eve and Christmas Day came very early for him this year.
“That means I am going to be able to be with my gifts from God on Tuesday, so it’s going to be like my Christmas. The boys are doing awesome, they’re still progressing as expected,” he said.
“We still have some hills and valleys but overall doctors are not concerned. They are doing everything that premature babies would do,” he added. And his wife is doing well too.
“She has her challenges but she’s been out there by herself long enough,” he said. “Her aunt was there for the weekend, but the family’s coming and soon we’ll all be together.
“As far as I know both Emyr and Esai are just over their birth weights and they’re both doing well on breast milk,” he added.
As for the rare birth of the couple’s miracle twins, Mr Bean said since their deliveries, life has been “surreal” for him.
But he said: “It’s been encouraging to see all the positive support and love from genuine of people of Bermuda. We’ll all be together from December 17 to January 3, 2014,” he said.
“This will be our first Christmas with a big family with everybody together. The only one missing will be our dog but he wouldn’t like the cold weather in Canada anyway, and so he’s staying home.”
When contacted yesterday, Ms Bean said both babies were progressing well.
“Emyr is 2lb 1oz, he’s on the conventional ventilator and doing well.
“He’s also now on my breast milk completely and currently on 8ml every two hours.
“Esai weighs 2lb 6oz, just an ounce under his original birth weight and he’s also doing very well.
“He’s breathing on his own with no assistance and also on breast milk taking 13ml every two hours,” she added.
“They are both settled and progressing well and spending time with the twins daily has shown me just how strong babies can be.
“They have a will to fight inside of them and it encourages me to do the same daily. The Bible verse Jeremiah 29:11 is what I lean on daily.”
And like her husband, she too was excited to “share and spend Christmas together with their newborn twins”.
“I am very excited to share in a white Christmas with my family and I thank God for allowing us to be together. I will miss sharing the holidays with our dog Teddy, but I know he’ll be spoiled in Bermuda.”
Meanwhile, Mr Bean extended another warm thank you to his wife’s employers. Ms Bean works at the Opportunity Workshop run by the Department of Health.
“They have been very gracious with my wife’s situation. They’ve been very open and giving to our family with what’s going on from the very beginning.
“From the beginning of her first round of bed rest, they were so understanding, so supportive.
“Her boss actually told me personally that ‘we don’t have to worry about anything with regards to her job’,” he added.
And for that he said both he, his wife and their new bundles of joy are truly grateful.
“We’re also grateful for the understanding of my employer’s at BTC. We’d like to thank everyone for their support, their love and all of their kind gestures.”
Mr Bean added: “God willing, the Bean family will be back together and stronger than ever this Christmas Day because our God is awesome and he can do all things.”
