Road accident after truck startles harness pony

Two people were hurt in a road accident after a harness pony being driven along North Shore Road, Pembroke, bolted after being startled by a garbage truck.

A car struck a utility pole near the junction with Stepney Lane, and a tractor-trailer hit a wall, after swerving to avoid the animal, which was uninjured.

The car driver, a 39-year-old Pembroke woman, was injured along with her passenger, a 36-year-old Paget man.

Witnesses to the incident, which happened at 6pm on Tuesday, are asked to call Pc Patricia Jeffers at 295-0011.

Meanwhile, four people were injured, and a car “extensively damaged”, following a single vehicle collision on Middle Road, Sandys, near Somerset Bridge.

According to police, the car struck a wall close to the Bridge Lane junction at 4.50am yesterday. The driver was unhurt, and his passengers were later discharged from hospital.

Witnesses should call Pc Lucretius Hamilton at 234-1010.
