Strong support for medicinal cannabis

A small scale survey held yesterday afternoon showed overwhelming public support of the use of medicinal marijuana in Bermuda.

“Marijuana has never killed a person while alcohol has,” said a Pembroke woman who declined to give her name.

“If marijuana is used as it is supposed to be, we can cure cancer.”

Robert Anthony Gibbons, 49, of Southampton agreed.

“I have a father who’s got cancer so if we had marijuana treatment he could be better off.”

Michal Gibbons, 71, Hamilton, said: “Yes, there are reports all around the world about marijuana so all we have to do is look on the internet for all the information we need.”

Chiffonae Jackson, 16, of Hamilton said she wanted legalisation because “people need it, it opens up more opportunities to get cures.”

Collette Simons, 18, of Sandys said: “You need it to survive, it can help reduce symptoms.”

Donald Johnson, 33, also of Sandys admitted to using cannabis saying, “I don’t think it’s that (a) serious (issue).”

The Cannabis Reform Collaborative Report was discussed in the House of Assembly last Friday.
