‘Dream’ pendants spread inspiration across Island
The man who created a pendant inspired by Bermuda and her people has been touched by how well it has been received on the Island and overseas.
Well-known road runner Sylvester Jean-Pierre designed and produced the limited edition pendants, which feature a lock and key and the word ‘Dream’, last November to reflect his feelings for the way Bermuda has fulfilled his own dreams over the past three decades. He also hoped the pendants would give a message of hope and inspiration to others.
Sales of the pendants raised $592, which has been presented to the Island’s Barbados Association, a charitable organisation.
Mr Jean-Pierre, who originally hails from Barbados, said: “Most people who have the pendants say it has brought them inspiration. The reaction has been good.”
The runner said the pendants also honoured his wife Cyrelene, who raised the couple’s children in Barbados and looked after elderly parents while he lived and worked for much of the time in Bermuda.
“All this came about through her. She was a very well-grounded woman at 19 when we met, and she has done so much in my life,” he said. Mr Jean-Pierre, 56, competed in the Bermuda Half-Marathon Derby for the 21st time last month, winning his age division. His wife was on the Island and, for the first time, got to see him compete in the race.
Mr Jean-Pierre added: “As I look back on my own journey I also acknowledge our heavenly father for giving us health and strength.”
