Motorcyclist in critical condition

A Smith’s man is fighting for his life after crashing his motorcycle in Sandys in the early hours of this morning.

According to police, the single vehicle accident happened at around 1.40am on Somerset Road near the junction with Scaur Hill Drive.

The victim, aged 20, was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital by ambulance and placed in the Intensive Care Unit. This afternoon his condition was said to be critical.

Traffic was diverted from the area immediately following the crash to enable investigators to examine the scene.

Inquiries are ongoing and any witnesses are encouraged to contact the Somerset Police Station on 234-1010.

The accident was the second serious crash of the weekend.

A Smith’s teenager was taken to hospital following a collision on North Shore Road in Devonshire yesterday morning.

The accident happened near the Mid-Atlantic Boat Club at around 10.30am.

A police spokesman said: “It appears that a car was being driven along North Shore Road and a motorcycle was being ridden along the same road when the vehicles collided.

“The injured motorcyclist, a 19-year-old Smith’s man, was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment. At last check he was in stable condition. There were no other injuries reported, however both vehicles were damaged.”

Following the collision, officers blocked off the area between Barker’s Hill and Glebe Road for a period while investigators examined the scene.

Inquiries are ongoing and police urge any witnesses that have not yet come forward to contact the Hamilton Police Station on 295-0011.
