Chapman to speak at PLP event

David Chapman will be the guest speaker at a PLP event tomorrow evening.

Marine scientist and teacher David Chapman will be the guest speaker at a Progressive Labour Party event tomorrow night.

Dr Chapman, who recently completed his doctorate on energy sustainability and security, will be the guest of Opposition leader Marc Bean, who is hosting the event — billed as ‘Leader’s Green Carpet Affair, Progress Over Politics’ — at the Berkeley Institute starting at 7.30pm.

Dr Chapman attended the Berkeley Institute and Hampton University, Virginia, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine and Environmental Science. He then attended the University of the West Indies where he completed two years of field research in Marine Ecology, working towards a Masters of Philosophy degree. He subsequently returned to Bermuda and taught at his old school.

In 2005, Dr. Chapman was selected to serve on the Sustainable Development Roundtable, progressing to deputy chairman. He has also served as Executive Secretary of the Hamilton Parish Workman’s Club, on the Parks Commission and on the Board of Agriculture.

Nadanja Bailey will be the evening’s Master of Ceremonies and there will be live entertainment from Bermuda Idol Olivia Hamilton and music by Jugglin Jason.

General tickets cost $75 while patron tickets are available for $150. Tickets can be purchased from PLP headquarters at Alaska Hall on Court Street, Hamilton.
