Man denies assaulting Senator

Senator Jeff Baron

A 46-year-old man has denied assaulting One Bermuda Alliance Senator Jeff Baron in a restaurant car park.

Victor Johnston, of Hamilton Parish, appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

He pleaded not guilty to assaulting Mr Baron, Junior Minister for Public Safety and Legal Affairs, at about 11pm on Wednesday outside the Swizzle Inn at Baileys Bay.

Mr Johnston also pleaded not guilty to charges of damaging Mr Baron’s shirt, to having care and control of a vehicle while impaired, and not complying with police requests for a breath test.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner adjourned the case until November 27 and granted Mr Johnston $2,000 bail with one surety.
