Senior injured in collision

An elderly woman was knocked down by a car as she walked across a pedestrian crossing in Southampton yesterday morning.

According to police, the incident took place at around 7.15am on Middle Road near the junction with Lighthouse Road.

“It appears that a car collided with a female pedestrian, who was apparently using a marked pedestrian crossing at the time,” a spokesman said.

“The victim, believed to be a 79 year old Southampton woman, was injured and taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital by ambulance for treatment.”

The senior is now recovering in stable condition on a general ward.
