Rider carrying cat crashes on bridge

A man riding a scooter while carrying a cat avoided being seriously injured after crashing on a bridge.

The motorcyclist was crossing the Swing Bridge in St George’s at 5.30pm on Saturday when he struck the guard rail.

The 64-year-old, from St George’s, was not badly hurt.

“First responders were dispatched to a reported single vehicle motorcycle collision on the Swing Bridge in St George’s,” a police spokesman said.

“It appears that a male motorcyclist was riding across the bridge while holding a cat when he collided with the bridge’s guard rail.

“The 64-year-old St George’s man apparently sustained relatively minor injuries. It is unclear what happened to the cat, if anything.”

Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service’s Sergeant Russann Francis said the biker was treated by their team before being taken to hospital.

“The Fire Service responded to the incident with one vehicle and four personnel,” she added.

Police are investigating the crash and witnesses are urged to contact PC Dwayne Edwards at the Southside Police Station on 293-2222.
