Show your support for domestic abuse charity

Residents are being urged to show their support for reopening the Island’s only shelter for the victims of domestic abuse by attending a gathering at East Broadway on Tuesday morning.

The Centre Against Abuse had to close its safe house last month due to a lack of funding.

Donations from kind-hearted residents and organisations have poured in since then and more than 820 people have signed a petition appealling to the Government for more financial assistance — it currently gives an annual grant of $75,000.

Concerned residents are urged to show their support on the grassy verge outside Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute between 7.50am and 8.30am. ‘Save the Shelter’ signs will be provided or you can take your own.

Centre staff are also urging people to sign their online petition at www.change.org/p/bermuda-community-save-the-safe-house
