Getting a taste for sailing

The Family Festival of Sail, run in conjunction with the Argo Gold Cup, will this year give both adults and children their first taste of the sport.

Three J 105 yachts will be provided to take local residents on 30-minute sails around Hamilton Harbour.

During the sail, skippers of the yachts will explain the significance of the Gold Cup which attracts many of the world’s top match-racing sailors.

Other activities planned during the October 19 festival include free boat rides in a rigid inflatable boat.

The event, at Barr’s Bay Park, will feature a Bermuda Ocean Explorers display, a Bermuda Underwater Exploration station, Bermuda Rowing Association simulators, Model Boat Association races, a Fife and Drum presentation, Calico Jack’s tours, an African Diaspora Heritage Trail feature about the Enterprise sculpture and site, a Chewstick station and an Optimist Exhibition Youth Race in the Harbour, starting at 1pm.
