Police hail gathering a ‘resounding success’
Around 200 youngsters took part in the annual Police Gymkhana at the weekend.
And a police spokesman said last night said: “The event can only be described as a resounding success and the smiles on the faces of the young people made it all worthwhile.”
Police officers ditched their blues and donned aprons to serve up a steady stream of free burgers, hot dogs and soft drinks as youngsters on their bikes took part in a series of races and obstacle courses, with prizes for the top performers.
“It was an opportunity for the Bermuda Police Service to partner with our young people, which we consider a core part of our future and why we’re here,” the spokesman said.
The event, held at Police Field at the force’s Prospect HQ on Saturday, was part of the Police Week celebrations, aimed at fostering good relations between police and the community they serve.
The Royal Bahamas Police Force Band, scheduled to make several appearances over the week, also performed at the gymkhana.
“Two of the highlights were the mascots’ race between school and community mascots and the ‘big boys’ race, which involved representatives of all the uniformed services,” the spokesman said. “We look forward to a phenomenal week of activities which continues on Monday with the police art show at the Police Recreation Club at Prospect.”
