Advice for cell phone users

Cell phone users are urged to have a fully charged second battery or power pack as well as car charger to help them stay connected after the hurricane.

The advice, from Digicel, was among mobile tips issued this afternoon.

The company said its dual network provides 2G and 4G services and that customers should set their mobile network mode to use both 2G/GSM and 3G/4G/WCDMA services for connectivity during and after Gonzalo.

The mobile network mode can be found in the settings of all mobile devices.

“We understand how reliant most mobile users are in terms of having their devices manage their everyday lives and suggest that customers compile a list of emergency numbers now in the event that you are unable to power up your mobile and need to rely on someone else’s device,” said Digicel chief executive Alistair Beak.

Digicel will send storm updates on behalf of the Emergency Measures Organisation via SMS.

Stores are due to reopen on Monday.
